Panic in Detroit is an old song by David Bowie.
Unfortunately the feeling of panic in Detroit is not mere entertainment these days, as Kwame Kilpatrick has exposed himself (no pun intended) as a philanderer and sexual harasser, the public schools graduate about one in three students (and that’s the good ones. Some are worse!), and the 2006 murder rate of 39.3 per 100,000 population is second only to Baltimore.
Remember “wilding“? Yeah, that was “good times” if you compare it to Detroit these days.
Detroit’s dropout rate is yet another nail in the coffin of American public schools.

“… the public schools graduate about one in three students…”
And those who graduate 12th grade may well have a fourth- or fifth-grade education and the analytical skills of a head of cabbage!
Not even a particularly intelligent head of cabbage at that.
