Support H.R. 3089, the No More Excuses Energy Act of 2007

Those who haven’t yet done it and who care at all about US gas and energy prices may want to sign an electronic petition urging the US House of Representatives to pass H.R. 3089, the No More Excuses Energy Act of 2007. Here is the petition. It does not work with Firefox. I had to use Internet Explorer. You may want to check here to see if your representative is a co-sponsor of H.R. 3089. I sent a letter to my representative, Gene Taylor, that went something like this. You may want to use something like it for yours.

Dear Representative Taylor:

Mississippi has long done its part in delivering energy to the rest of the country. With oil over $140 a barrel and OPEC determined on taking it to $170 per barrel this summer, it is long past time for the whole US to start taking responsibility for its own energy. Everyone, not just long-haul truckers, will be paying more than $5 a gallon. Tourism and travel industries will suffer. The increased price of diesel, together with the unexpected side-effects of the ethanol boondoggle, has already raised the price of food and other necessities by well over 20%. A monopolist cartel composed of hostile nations including Iran, Libya, Venezuela, Nigeria and Russia is now holding the US and world economy hostage with the price of oil and natural gas. H.R. 3089 is a good first step to establishing some level of energy independence for the US. I note you have not yet supported it, and urge you to lend it your full support.

Mississippi has carried more than its weight in the provision of energy to the US. It’s time for the rest of the states to carry some of the load.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

I only changed two things. My name. And I made a mistake and wrote Zimbabwe instead of Nigeria in my letter. You can surely do better than I did at writing a letter. Go ahead and do it. And sign the petition. If I find a place to send faxes I’ll pass that along too. That’s how the illegal alien amnesty bill got stopped last year. If the congress critters can weigh their correspondence in the pounds or tons then it starts the wheels spinning in their heads, and they realize that means votes. Lots of votes.
